There are two NETS*T Standards that apply to this lesson plan. The first standard involves the application of “using technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize students learning and the second, is based on the use of “current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environment and experiences. My students deserve a break from just viewing blocks of text. I want to prove to them that learning can be fun and it is never limited.
My goal for this lesson plan was to show my students that there is nothing wrong with being different. But with a little editing and revising, there are ways I can make my lesson more challenging for my students. For example, I can have them learn more about each other’s background by interviewing each other using tape recorder, they can go online and interview other students from other places using the internet. On the other hand, if I want them to learn to be more critical, I could also have them write an essay on each other’s background. There are so many possibilities I can go with this lesson plan however I would rather keep my first method for now to see how it will work on in the future.
Creating a website was a first for me and was probably the part I liked best about this assignment. Before I started on this project, I was full of uncertainty. For a long time, I thought creating a website would be difficult and time consuming. However, Page Creator made it possible for me to create one. I learned that it can be an easy process. It did take me a while to become accustomed to the functions of the controls but once those were understood, I was having fun discovering what I can do with my work. I really like the fact that I can put my lesson plan or any assignments online and my students will be able to see it.
In conclusion, I hope my lesson plan will appeal to as many of my students as possible. It is important to me that they know a little something about each other’s background. I have had my share of bad experiences with seeing students being treated by other students because of their background or ethnicity. Not only will this lesson help students make wiser choices, it can also leave them with a peace of mind.
